Role: Designer

The National Council of University Research Administrators (NCURA) works to advance the field of research administration through education and professional development programs, the sharing of knowledge and experience, and by fostering a professional, collegial, and respected community. Each year, the organization hosts regional meetings across the country to share new ideas, trends and goals. For the 2020 Region V meeting, the organization needed a central theme and graphic for the website, social media and other promotional materials.

The style is inspired by the meeting location in Fort Worth, Texas, which has a history of cattle ranching and is rooted in the culture of the American West. The style and color is inspired by the city’s American West culture, and made to resemble a wanted poster or notice. The theme “Where the Best Begins” is derived from the city’s slogan “Where the West Begins” and serves as an overarching inspirational message for leadership and goal development. For this graphic, I used a pre-made font and customized the look with an original hat drawing and shapes for the spur and scroll paper.
